Subproject 1:

Religious Communication in Charcas (17th and 18th Centuries)

The project deals with forms and media of religious communication using two examples from the rural and urban space: Carabuco village (close to Lake Titicaca) and its church and the Sucre Cathedral (formerly La Plata). Special emphasis is on the linguistic, visual, and performative representations of religious knowledge in texts, images, architecture, feasts and rituals, sacralization of space as well as the intermedia reference systems that determine the representation and perception of religious knowledge.
